Focused Reflections / Elevate Your Soul
I tapped out beats on the steering wheel with two friends in the car; the radio sounded smooth and the air felt cold. My friend next to me yelled at three girls walking by while the other ducked under the window, embarrassed. I remembered being fourteen and having a pen thrown at me from a car full of high school seniors. It was finally funny as the girls scurried away toward a parking lot full of loitering suburban kids. Somebody drove by with flashing lights under their car and a larger radio somewhere disrupted our mood, if only for a moment.
We had no plan and nothing to do at all. All suggestions would have been dismissed because, we assumed, they wouldn’t be entertaining enough, but now I see that we perhaps reveled in our inaction. The radio sounded smooth and the air felt cold. We were young, happy and healthy, and it may have been one of the best times in our lives.
